ミャンマーの民主化と平和のための祈りの日
ケルン、ニューヨーク、東京、そしてレーゲンスブルクの各教区は、聖木曜日にミャンマーのために祈るよう呼びかけています。
ケルン－ニューヨーク－東京－レーゲンスブルク。ミャンマーの状況は悪化の一途をたどっています。他の宗教と同様、現地のキリスト教徒は、軍事政権のクーデターの影響を受けています。抗議活動の中で、すでに230人以上の人々が亡くなっています。現地に拠点を置くNGOや援助団体はますます圧力を受けており、軍事政権によって海外からのすべての送金の開示を迫られています。
ミャンマーのヤンゴン大司教であり、アジア司教協議会連盟総裁でもあるチャールズ・マウン・ボ枢機卿は、祈りと連帯を求めて、全世界の教会に緊急に訴えました。ケルン大司教区は、ニューヨーク、東京、そしてレーゲンスブルクの各教区と共に、この願いに応え、2021年4月1日の聖木曜日を、ミャンマーのための特別な祈りの日として宣言します。
ケルン大司教ライナー・マリア・ヴェルキ枢機卿は、すでに3月15日にボ枢機卿に私的な手紙を送り、支援と祈りを表明しています。「あなたはミャンマーのため、特にそこに住む人々のための祈りを求められました。わたしは、心のからの連帯とミャンマーの教会とミャンマーの人々のために祈ることを約束いたします」とヴェルキ枢機卿は述べています。この約束は大司教区全体としてのものであると枢機卿は言っています。
聖木曜日の典礼の一部として、ケルン、ニューヨーク、東京、レーゲンスブルクの各教区で、ミャンマーの人々のための祈りが捧げられます。 「ミャンマーが民主主義と自由への道を見出し、再び、ミャンマー人が誇りとする「黄金の国」となることを神が助けてくださいますように。そしてわたしは、わたしたちケルン教区の各小教区に、ミャンマーのためにも祈るようにお願いしています」とヴェルキ枢機卿は約束しています。
4つの教区は、教皇の憂慮にも心を合わせています。 教皇フランシスコは、繰り返し、最近では3月17日の一般謁見で、ミャンマーの極めて困難な状況を指摘しています。「再びミャンマーの悲劇的な状況に言及しなければならないのは、極めて憂慮すべきことです」「ミャンマーでは、若者たちをはじめ、多くの人が祖国に希望をもたらすために、命を落としています。そこでは、多くの人々、特に若者たちが、祖国に希望をもたらすために命を捧げています」

東京教区タルチシオ菊地功大司教は、ミャンマーの司教団に宛てた私的な手紙の中で「わたしたちは、弱い人々に奉仕しすべての人々のために平和を求めるミャンマーの教会と祈りのうちに連帯することを約束します」と、祈りによる支援を約束しています。
レーゲンスブルク教区では、2001年からミャンマーの若者を対象とした奨学金制度を設けており、レーゲンスブルクとミャンマーの間には密接な結びつきがあります。ルドルフ・フォダーホルツァー司教は、レーゲンスブルク教区のすべての信徒に、抑圧された人々の側に立つことを求めています。「ミャンマーでは現在、多くの人々が、自由、法の保護、生計など、自分たちの命に属するものすべてを失っています。彼らにとって、わたしたちの祈りと思いやりは、暴力と不正と不安に満ちた砂漠の中で、次の日を生き抜くための希望と勇気の源に等しいものです。 聖木曜日以降、ミャンマーの人々のために、心を合わせてお祈りくださるようお願いします」と司教は述べています。

Day of Prayer for democracy and peace in Myanmar
The (arch)dioceses of Cologne, New York, Tokyo and Regensburg call for prayer for Myanmar on Holy Thursday.
Cologne – New York -Tokyo – Regensburg. The situation in Myanmar continues to deteriorate. Christians there, like all other religions, are affected by the military junta’s coup. More than 230 people have already died in the protests. NGOs and aid organizations based there are under increasing pressure and are forced by the military government to disclose all financial transactions from abroad.
Cardinal Charles Maung Bo, the Archbishop of Yangon in Myanmar and President of the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences has given an urgent appeal to the universal church asking for prayer and solidarity. The Archdiocese of Cologne, together with the (arch)dioceses of Tokyo, New York and Regensburg, are responding to this request by proclaiming April 1st, 2021, Holy Thursday, as a special day of prayer for Myanmar.
Archbishop Rainer Maria Cardinal Woelki of Cologne had already addressed Cardinal Bo in a personal letter on March 15th, expressing support and prayer: “You have asked for prayer for Myanmar and especially for the Burmese. I would like to assure you of my solidarity from the bottom of my heart and promise you that I include the Church of Myanmar and the people of this country in my prayers,” Cardinal Woelki said. This promise also applies to the entire archdiocese, he said.
As part of the Holy Thursday liturgy, prayers for the people of Myanmar will be offered in the (arch)dioceses of Cologne, New York, Tokyo and Regensburg. “May God help that Myanmar will find its way back to democracy and freedom and again become the “Golden Land” that the Burmese are so proud of. I will also ask our parishes to include Myanmar in their prayers,” assured Cardinal Woelki.
The (arch)dioceses thus also join the Pope’s concern. Pope Francis had repeatedly – most recently at the general audience on March 17th – pointed to the extremely difficult situation. “It is with great concern that I find myself once again referring to the tragic situation in Myanmar, where so many people – especially young people – are giving their lives to give hope to their country.”
The American bishops had joined his urgent appeal to Myanmar for “a return to democracy.” “I join with our Holy Father, Pope Francis, my brother bishops here in the United States and around the world, and all people of good will, in praying for a peaceful end to the current crisis in Myanmar,” said Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan, Archbishop of New York.
The Archbishop of Tokyo, Tarcisio Isao Kikuchi had pledged his prayer support in a personal letter to the bishops in Myanmar: “I would like to assure you of our prayer in solidarity, with the Church of Myanmar, her role in serving the weak and her striving for peace.”
The diocese of Regensburg has been funding a scholarship program for young people from Myanmar since 2001, which is why there are close ties between Regensburg and Myanmar. Bishop Rudolf Voderholzer asks all Christians in the diocese of Regensburg to stand by the side of the oppressed people: “So many people in Myanmar are currently losing everything that belongs to their lives: freedom, the protection of the law and their livelihood. Our prayers and sympathy are for them like a source of hope and courage to live in a desert of violence, injustice and anxiety to survive the next day. I ask all of you to pray for these people and with you on Holy Thursday and beyond.”(pek210329-bue)
Intercession text: Let us pray for our sisters and brothers in Myanmar at this time of crisis in their country. May justice and dialogue overcome the darkness and division now present in Myanmar. That all will work together to build a truly reconciled community of hope and peace. Lord hear us.
