 Re: Funeral Services for The Most Reverend Peter Takeo Okada RIP, Archbishop Emeritus of Tokyo

We would like to inform you about the funeral services for the late Archbishop Peter Takeo Okada, Archbishop Emeritus of Tokyo, who passed away at Tokyo Medical and Dental University Medical Hospital at 1:22 pm yesterday, 18th December (Friday) due to hemorrhagic shock due to cervical esophageal cancer (throat cancer).

・Cremation: The remains of the late Archbishop Emeritus Peter Takeo Okada will be cremated tomorrow, 20th December (Sunday).

・Funeral Mass: The funeral mass will be held on 23rd December 2020 (Wednesday) at 11:00 am to be attended by the priests. ⇒the Holy Mass will be broadcast live via internet
 Venue: St. Mary’s Cathedral Tokyo

・Memorial Mass: A memorial mass will be celebrated on 19th January 2021 (Tuesday) at 11:00 am to be attended by the bishops, priests and representatives from various organizations.  
 Venue: St. Mary’s Cathedral Tokyo

Please take note that both the Funeral Mass and the Memorial Mass will NOT be open to the public.

On the other hand, offering of flowers and prayers will be open to the public on 19th January 2021 (Tuesday) from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

We would like to ask your cooperation on the following requests:

・Due to our present situation, those with chronic illness and those who are not feeling well are requested to refrain from coming to the cathedral and please offer your prayers at home.

・Please wear a face mask.

・We hope for your understanding in the event that we might have to make significant changes in the abovementioned funeral services, especially the offering of flowers and prayers by the general public depending on the COVID-19 situation.
