The two stars in the Emblem mean the two regions that form Tokyo Archdiocese: The Metropolis of Tokyo and Chiba Prefecture.

The Latin words CARITAS, FIDES, SPES mean Love, Faith and Hope.

The five loaves of bread and the two fish, like we read in Matthew 14, show that if we share with each other the little we have, through God’s blessing we will receive all we need.

The hat on top is a symbol of responsibility in the Church, and the layers of tassels from the rope varies according to the title: 3 layers for Bishops, 4 Layers for Archbishops and 5 layers for Cardinals.

The Japanese writing at the bottom is the motto of Archbishop Okada: “The one who trust in the Lord”
