ANNOUNCEMENT

Re: Postponement of the Memorial Mass and offering of flowers and prayers for the Most Reverend Peter Takeo Okada RIP, Archbishop Emeritus of Tokyo

♰ Greetings of peace!

On the night of 7th January, the government has issued again a declaration of a state of emergency, and it is expected that other prefectures would be included in the area covered by the said declaration.

As earlier announced, we have scheduled on 19th January (Tuesday) a memorial mass, and offering of flowers and prayers by the general public, for the late Archbishop Peter Takeo Okada, Archbishop Emeritus of Tokyo, who passed away last 18th December. However, with the current coronavirus situation and the re-declaration of a state of emergency, all the events scheduled on the 19th will be cancelled and will be postponed to a later date. We will make the announcement of the details including the new date and time as soon as it is established.

During these difficult times as we approach the memorial of the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake on 17th January and the Great East Japan Earthquake on 11th March, let us strive as much as we can to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus infection.

Please take care of your health.

Fr. Yuji Urano
Chancellor
Archdiocese of Tokyo
